I found that the longer ahead you look the cheaper it gets. With the recent decline in oil prices this may not always be true but in general thats what I think.

Early. Always book early. You might be able to get a last minute deal, but chances are everything is booked and you will have to pay even more.

The truth is, I have never ever been able to get a good last mintue deal. 

Perhaps there really is no last minute deal, makes me wonder, most of these promos really come few weeks booking before the scheduled flight and you have to buy the ticket very early, too in order to avail of it.

Not entirely. Last Minute Deals are for Travel Agencies to sell off unused spots. This means if you have a very specific destination in mind you won't get it, but if you are flexible you can good deals. We got some more strategic partners this week.
