Vacation rental web programs/script

Vacation rental web programs/script

I've had this idea of building a travel site like a directory of travel locations/options only for my country. It's just an idea so far, i haven't even bought a domain name but i'll get there as i figure more out.
I'm asking you, the members of this community.. do you know any web program or a script that would give me the posibility to generate and manage such a website?

thanks in advance...

mike.

Sure

Hello Mike,

we are using Drupal on this site (http://drupal.org/). There are easier ones available like Joomla (http://joomla.org/) but I prefer Drupal (it is way more flexible).

I think it would be best for you to read about different CMS and try them out (http://www.cmsmatrix.org). Just be careful when you read reviews. Its almost a holy war like people defending their Operating System or Browser. There is a lot of bias towards the (in my eyes inferior) Joomla (just because its slightly easier to set up I guess).

Don't rush things and play around with it thoroughly. It is a lot of work to change to another system. Once you chose something, you may be stuck with it for a long time. I tried out several before I arrived at Drupal.

Thanks Andre, but i was

Thanks Andre, but i was thinking of something more like this vacation rental script

I'll give this a try.

Thanks again.

Yeah right, or looking for

Yeah right, or looking for a way to pitch your url (I can never tell Cool)

Why pay money for a product that you can easily create yourself with free tools? The capabilities of Drupal or Joomla go way beyond this script of yours.

I do NOT doubt the powers

CoolTongue out

I do NOT doubt the powers and capabilities of Drupal or Joomla. Some might find it easy customizing an open source CMS and others do not have the time or knowledge to do that. And here come into play scripts like the one i mentioned before. And i believe honest work was put into those kind of scripts.

If this kind of promoting is considered spam, forgive me but i'm trying my luck with what i got. :) I'll learn new ways, maybe.

Sincerely,

Mike

ps: Drupal definetely rocks. :)

Um, yeah sorry if I wrongly

Um, yeah sorry if I wrongly accused you. I am having my hands full fighting spam.

I think we would all enjoy a review of the software. So after you tested it out thoroughly, why not give us a short rundown of the features and let us know what sets it apart from other programs and what justifies the expense.

I think this would be helpful.
