What do you do?
Thought I just want to start a thread of how everybody's been doing nowadays?
What do you do now, especially as a living?
I work as an online assistant, staying at home and loving it... Yes! Great to be one's own boss and your boss is only a click away. I don't think I will ever work outside of the house again for as long as cyberspace is existing.

I am an Analog Design Engineer. That is a special kind of integrated circuit design.
At times its a lot of fun and some times its not. There is always this struggle between manufacturability, time to market and coming up with cool new solutions. I am in the development department rather than the research, so I have to crank out working silicon rather quickly. Anyways, I like my job and I take pride in my functioning circuits
. I work for a big respected semiconductor makers (one of the top 10 in the world).
My second job is being a photographer. At this day and age, where billions of digital cameras are in the hands of people, it is almost impossible to make a living of it. Hence I will probably never be doing it full time.
My third job is being a web designer. I did the programming behind this website and I use it as a technology incubator for my photo site (meaning this one is always one step ahead).

you are a bunch of talents, andre and I salute you for that!
being an analog designer, photographer and web designer, they are actually related but it takes much time, effort and determination to be able to learn all of them :)
i learned how to fix electric engines when i was done with school, but never did it for a living (wasnt my dream job), maybe i can open a garage if cars finally dont come with combustion engines any more :)
had to do some calcuation in analog circuits as well, but i was never good in it, but programming computers and some webdesign on the other side seems quite fun, do it since more 8 years. bad thing is i never got a reall full time job in this sector and had to deal with a lot of idiots: "WHAT!? MORE THAN 1000$ AND 40 HOURS FOR A WEBSITE? YOU MUST BE KIDDING! this neighbors kid knows EVERYTHING about computers and had this other site done with frontpage in 8 hours for 100$, an it even has marquee text and this wooden background!". You can probably find this site somewhere in google if you look for "New Page 1" between pages 400.000 and 500.000. another classic: (some discussion about a programm and why it does something the way it does) "dont tell me bullshit here, because im a programmer too!" - "o rly, what language?" - "microsoft excel!"
i was in the local flght club for 2 years but never had a real licence, hoever i can bring small planes safe up and down. dont fly at the moment since its to expenseve arround here, but i try resume it later again and maybe even get this frikkin pilot licence :)
and i just take photos for myself to keep the memory about places alive, dont have the equipment or skill to take pretty pictures - or maybe i just never have such good wheather or light like the professionals
I can relate to the things you said about programming. This is why I don't try to fix computers for friends anymore. Too much hassle.

I read fight club (I guess you forgot the i) and I was reminded of the movie with Edward Norton and Brad Pit. I thought to myself "what a strange character"

Good weather doesn't mean good photos. Patience does. I waited for this one two days in bad weather:

Yosemite Photos
woah that photo is so beautifult it seems as if the mountain is covered in gold. i think you could easily be a top class Professional Photographer andre, your photos are some of the best i have ever seen.
Thanks callis, I am glad you like it. I am still improving my techniques.
Yosemite in Winter is my favorite spot and time. Sometimes it takes a lot of patience. Most people had left the park after a day of bad weather. If you are lucky the sun will break through in the evening and create a wonderful scene like this.
Thanks again.

Truly a breathtaking photograph. I'll bet seeing it in person was amazing.
Back ontopic.... I am disabled, so I don't work outside my home. I try to earn a little extra cash and gifts online (through rewards programs and freebies and deals sites) just so Christmas will be a little better. So, needless to say, we don't get to travel very often. But it's so nice when we do get to go somewhere.
Sometimes its hard work to avoid hard work. I try not to work at all. If I can avoid work I do so. I think noone should spend their best years working to make someone else rich, but thats just my feeling. Some people enjoy it.

Nah! If I have the choice, I'd not work hard at all. However, sometimes you're right, Andre. It is hard not to work hard for if you are already used to working, you are really a workaholic... well, at least, not an alcoholic!

depends on your work. i had a lot of "damm, i leave this town if i have enought money to move on!" jobs but also 3 or 4 jobs i liked very much, where i had no problem to work from 8 to 21 sometimes just because it was fun and i had a lot of freedom what and how to do things and nice people to work with.
True, but in the end its all work and it makes someone else (usually some well fed shareholders) rich. I don't think I want to do this forever.
BTW, I noticed your site is down !
