I have learned from my online friend that London is known for its banking and insurance institutions and some famous landmarks, too, e.g., The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, etc.
what about the london eye? what about our agent in london? :) oh and they have lots of dangerous zombies in london - i have seen this in at least 3 movies so far!
Aw, you beat me to it. I was going to say double-decker busses. :)
To add something new to the thread, one thing that comes to mind when I think of London is the palace guards. I want to go there just to see if I can make them get some kind of expression on their faces.

I haven't been to London yet, but I am making final plans for our London Honeymoon. So far, I have planned for us to go to the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, London Eye, Big Ben, Westminster Cathedral, Madame Tussaud', London Zoo, among others. You will find the London guide very helpful. I have been making our itinerary with a lot of help from it.
as a londoner (born&bred) i believe that Lloyds of london is responsible for the worlds shipping insurance, and posibly the bank of england is one if not the oldest in the world, and we are one of the major modern finacial centres in the world
in addition to all obvious landmarks we have the oldest underground train system (the tube)
many great parks, great theatre & music, art galleries & museums (most are free) and dont forget Harrods, lol
ive lived here over 40 years, and i havent seen all that london has to offer
ps you'll never get the guards to react, its all tourists try to do all day long !!
The portobello road is the best place to shopping, and you can find almost anything, literally. The madame tussaud museum is a tourist attraction too, and I like to see some painting galleries

I think you can find some of your answers in this thread.
Didn't know London was famous for its banks, I always assumed that was Switzerland.
If I hear London I see those red busses (two stories) and old looking (but new) black cabs.

Hmmm, I gotta ask him why he says London is famous for their banks. What makes their banks special?

Lol! What a great challenge that would be, Marsha! Want to try it, too and see if I can do it!
Anything else you can add?
Greenwich 0-Meridian
Westminster Abbey
Big Ben
Picadilly Circus
Madam Tussod's
Musicals
Hyde Park
Tower Bridge
What about Buckingham Palace. I hear the queen was pretty upset when she couldn't water her lawn last summer (water shortage).
Not quite London but same uniforms:

I only know London for its famous landmarks. But being famous for its insurance institutions and banks, I haven't heard of.
