Reasons for travelling
Travelling is a life altering experience and (usually) a 'once in a lifetime' experience! No matter how broke you return home you will have memories, friends and experiences that no one can take away from you.
And that is exactly why people set off on trips around the world. They are after a life altering experience. They want to see new things, meet new people, learn about different cultures, explore the world in their own pace and actually experience what others only dream about their whole lives. Sure, it requires serious saving and planning. Sure, there will be people around you who don't understand or want you to go. Whatever it is, if we are determined, nothing should stop us.
These are some of the purposes of travelling. What about you? What is your main reason for travel?

my main reason for travelling is to see the world and to experience different cultures.
My ultimate dream is to travel the world! I want to meet new people and explore the different cultures, religions and languages other countries have.

Curiosity killed the cat… Some people (like me!) are born too curious and they are eager to explore the world for no particular reason. I could stay at home, spraddle on my soft sofa and sip beer watching TV, but NO: on and on I go for new adventures, new worlds, new impressions!!!.......
I don't need a reason to travel.
If I had the bankroll and no commitments, it would be everything I ever did.
I think someone needs to give me a strong reason NOT to travel (unfortunately there are too many).
Travel to me is:
Hope this will suffice

I'm like Andre, except I'm doing it, largely because I don't stay in nice hotels where the room gets made up every day. In fact, right now I'm staying in a nice clean room with a single bed, a formica table, a plastic stool, a sink, a ceiling fan (no air-con), and a window. I go down the hall to the shared bath and toilet. Sound rough? Well, I'm paying 15 RM (Malaysian Ringgit) per night. At the rate I got the last time I visited the bank, that's $4.50 per night.
I have, however, become tired of travel, or at least the moving around part, and stay places for a really long time before moving on. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad. I'm sure the urge to start moving will return some day.
I would also love to be able to do nothing else but travel around the world. I've seen a lot of places already, but there is so much more I would love to see and explore.
My reasons for traveling:
Exploring new cultures
Just literally 'seeing' new places gives me so much joy
Taking pictures and expanding my photography collection
Meeting new people
I just love traveling, it makes me happy, and it's become like an addiction (but in a good way)
I travel out of boredom and because I'm restless. I like to go to new places and see new things. The only reason I own a house is to have someplace to store the things I've collected on trips.
You must be rich to do that.
I do ok. I make travel a priority in my life and allocate money into a travel account. As a result, other expenses are kept low. It's like anything else, if you want it badly enough you can make it happen.
I completely agree. I have 3 old cars and I have no desire to upgrade. Instead I use a sizable portion of my income for travel and weekend trips. I don't go for the cheapest hotels, since I only have two weeks of vacation, I'd better enjoy them.
As Accer says, its a matter of how you prioritize. Ask Cindy, she travels most of the year without spending a fortune on it. She wrote some nice articles about this:
The 8 best Tips to afford Long Term Travel
Nine Tips for finding the Money for Long Term Travel
You can't see the world in only one year
She also talks about how to prioritize and save money during the year to afford more for travel. It makes a lot of sense, but it also takes quite a bit of discipline to pull this off (I admire how much discipline she has).

I travel because I love seeing new places. But my main reason is to just get away from everday life. Sometimes you find yourself getting in a rut. And getting away helps.
Oh, good point, riskey! I like to go on short trips over the weekend to get away from it all. Helps me relax and, well, put things into perspective.
I like to travel to places that are in midst of change, not turmoil, just change. I like to see how they reconstruct themselves, how they map out new directions. That's why I found it exciting to work in Eastern Europe just BEFORE some of those countries joined the European Union.
The food, the drink, the adventures..the nightlife....ahh...
There are so many reasons. I was a long term traveller
back in the mid 90s. One of the big reasons I heard from
a lot of people was that they were traveling to 'get away
from an eX'. LOL, the old 'pull a runner' seems timeless.
I like to travel just to get away from everyday like. And I enjoy sightseeing and seeing all the different cultures.
I dont need any reason for travelling rather I love to travel and explore the world and I believe that travelling is always for betterment.
Wow thats a passage. yah definitly agree with that. i unexpetedly miss a flight, and got another ticket to get to the next flight for twice the price. My goodness. Arriving late to the destination with no room for the requested hotel. So i had to stay with the security (not at the lounge) but at the entrance with my luggage beside me.
Agree. I save money not for my future but to be able to get on a plane and travel.
the most reason to travel that I want to see new people and new world :)
Hi
A good reason for travelling can be to have new adventures and learning about new places. This is a good idea for taking adavantage of our time. And it's great that you can see with our ayes places what we only had seen on photographs or TV.
Mikaela and Romina.
I think that travelling is interesting because it's nice to know something new about other cultures and visit new places.
I'd like to travel for educational reasons. I'd like to improve my knowledge about theatre and English.
