Scam Job Offer
I applied in one local job agency online and applied to one of the biggest TV company in UK.
The day after, I received a job offer only to find out that it was a scam. How did I know it was a scam?
I read a UK site and I have learned to check on the following:
1. Never send any kind of payment to a person. If it is legit, then it must be addressed to an office/embassy.
2. If the salary and benefits are too good to be true, it is usually a scam.
3. The email add must be not be yahoo, hotmail or the like.

the yahoo, hotmail email address is a dead give away. why should a professional company should have there own corporate email accounts. what tv company were you applying for
if im in the city i see always some delivery/company cars with advertising on it. if its not a computer or it-related company the often only have a free email account. not at yahoo/hotmail, but at some large local provider, or even aol.
i sometimes get some "job offers" (tranfer stolen money via online banking) via email where they have some company domain, but if you look up the domain details this site is online since less than 1 week.
btw. does someone know whats behind all this "incredible cheap cellphones, psp, laptops"-postings poping up in all unmoderated forums like here? what kind of scam is that?
Something I don't quite understand:
Why would you have to send money anywhere to perform a job?
I think THAT should be the indicator for a scam. I see this stupid ads on TV every day, that go something like this: "Start your Online Business for just $99 and become an internet millionaire". Yeah right, as if everyone could just become an internet millionaire like that. Also it is free to start your online biz. Yep, aside from domain and hosting costs (which those programs don't cover either).

I agree I never ever send money to work for someone. You are supposed to earn the money working for them so why would you have to pay them to work for them. But there are a lot of scams out there and it pays to be careful. Just follow that rule never pay money out to obtain a job.
To: Callis: I applied at "MTV Base UK" for a secretary position
To: Andre: It really seemed legit at first coz the money that I was about to spend was for visa processing and work permit. When they sent the job offer, they refered me to an immigration officer with the name and address so that I can contact him about applying for UK visa online. When I sent a message to that person, I was advised about the requirements, the forms to be completed and when done with all, I have to send 400 gbp for processing to that person. Also, I remembered that the 'MTV' seemed to be hurrying me up for that 'job' coz after I have the visa, I must 'report for work'. This is also another indication of a scam. And do you know how much salary they stated? It is 5500 GBP! Wow! It was just good that I was able to contact my friend in London and asked her about it if it was the usual salary which was really not.
