Airport Security Check-ups
How do you feel with the increased security at airports? It does take a lot of time and patience to be keeping up with the check-ups.
Although it does consume additional time and effort on our part to be subjected to these, I personally feel comforted that the airlines and the authorities are taking the time to do their best for our safety. What about you, do you feel the same way or do you feel that these are some of the irritating things that you just don't like when travelling?

I made my point clear in this thread.
The overall point I made was this:
Security yes, as long as your rights as an individual are not violated, your civil rights are respected and you are not separated by race, belief or anything else.
Further there should be some restrictions to the many imposed restrictions. I believe you can never secure airports 100%, so why harass innocent travelers to this extend? I am not aware that a lot of terrorists have been caught by tigher security (they would have been caught by normal security).
But I discussed this in more length in the other thread.

I was at Gatwick airport on Monday, I had a flight for 11.50 am, but we were there by 6 am. Check in was fine but there were lots of arm security; you can’t even take a picture outside of the airport. That’s how strict the security is. I really don’t mine them being there as it is for our own safety.
I'm almost afraid to reply here out of fear of starting another fight. ( smile Andre! :) ) But the opinionated part of me just tends to take over. Personally, I am in favor of doing anything that is necessary to make air travel safe. Arriving at the airport a few hours early is really nothing in my opinion. I don't even really consider it an inconvenience, it's more of a necessity. I'm in favor of anything they can do to keep us safe.
Well, afterall it is their duty and obligation to make sure the people are safe.
I believe that they are also trying their best not to make the check up routines a very very inconvenient thing.
Marsha, I am sorry you feel that way. I didn't want to attack anyone.
I feel very strongly about invasion of privacy and all the other things.
By your own reasoning there should be searches for subways, busses and special anti-terrorist checks when you rent a car (carbomb). Once you open up this can of worms there is no telling how far you can take it.
I also think that no matter what security scans are in place, there are always ways for the bad guys. One of the biggest leaks is airport employees. I mean who scans the guy who puts the food on the plane or the guy who loads the bags?
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with metal detectors and bag searches. But I cannot see the logic behind a no-flight list that your name cannot be taken off from. Senator Kennedy was on that list for some reason and even though he is a Senator it took him nearly forever to get his Name taken off.
What if someone who has the same name you do gets red flagged. Since association is done by name only, your name will now be on that list with no wrong doing on your own part. So why can't you appeal that your name is on the list?
Why do other countries have to submit passenger data before the plane takes off? Who makes sure this data is only used for this reason, and if so, why is the data being stored for 50 !! years. Who controls the government agencies .
Why are there detention centers for immigrants that are not under any control (I saw it on TV the other day).
Why don't you have the right to an attorney when you are kept for questioning at the airport.

I know it really can be a pain> But I feel a lot better that they have security. I think it is really sad that we have to have it this way. I can remember taking my kids to the airport and they could go out on this lookout and watch the planes land andd take off. They really enjoyed it. Now you can't even get past the mane entrance.
