The Riviera Maya's
My husbands boss comes from Mexico and she has recommended we travel and see The Riviera Maya's. Has anyone ever been there I have heard the Riviera Maya's principal quality is its diversity. You can enjoy adventure sports, golf and tennis to jungle tours on foot or horseback, water and nautical sports, and touring the indescribable cultural and archaeological treasures of the Maya world. One of the favorite activities for visitors is scuba diving on the Great Maya Reef, the second-largest in the world, located along the Riviera Maya's coastline and experiencing cavern diving in the region´s ubderground rivers. The spectacular tropical marine life here is unique and unforgettable. We are thinking seriously about visiting this area while in Mexico.

I have been at the Rivera Maya twice. Just follow the link to read my latest article on the area. I was actually somewhat disappointed about the many changes since my previous vacation. There has been an enormous amount of development, all geared towards the all inclusive beach tourist.
I never had any interest in spending all of my precious little vacation on a beach, so I was ranting a bit about it. If thats your style, go for it.
I wrote other articles about Mexico that are mainly about exploring the country. It is one of my favorite areas in the world, but it is changing very quickly and tourism is increasing.
If you are into snorkeling, you may want to consider Cozumel. But since Cozumel always gets hit more by hurricans, make sure you check before you go. Sometimes construction will go on well into the next season.

We do a lot of snorkeling, over here on the Great Barrier Reef, in Queensland. I love it the water is so clear there. Do the hurricanes occur in Cozumel at any certain times of the year or just at randum? I would love to give it a go over there sometime.
I think the hurricane season is from July to September (maybe June).
It's not just the hurricane season I would worry about. They got hit by a big one last year and the hotels were still closed this April. I went there for a conference that got moved to Playa del Carmen.
I would go to Mexico in the Winter, since the weather is much more pleasant. By then the hurricane season is over too and if the hotels are open they didn't get hit too hard.
There are a lot of great Reefs in the area for snorkeling (e.g. near Akumal), but the best ones are near Cozumel.
There is a ferry running between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. It takes about 30-40 minutes.

Sometimes I envy you guys in your world travels. You've gone to places that I can only dream of. My dad used to have to travel to Mexico for business when I was a kid, of course he never saw the pretty parts like you guys do, but he still got to experience a different culture. I'd like to see Mexico one of these days. And the Riviera Maya looks beautiful.
Really? Well let me tell you this. I don't own a fancy car, I don't own a house, I don't have a huge savings account (I do have some expensive camera equipent though
). I spent a good chunk a year on travel because it has a high priority for me. That doesn't mean that this is what everyone should do and if you enjoy your car (or house ...) why not. A house lasts and is a good investment. Travel memories last too, but are a lousy investment

unless you make your travelling a investment by doing your own travel show and try and get one of teh huge network to take it on, then again do those travel reporters make a lot.
What are the chances of this happenning. No really, its next to impossible. This would be everyones dream job.
