Would you dare to travel to Middle East?

With the recent trouble, chaos and war in the Middle East, anybody here who would tell us that they will dare to go there? And for what reason?

I'd love to go, but I don't

I'd love to go, but I don't dare.

The ancient city of Petra in Jordon would be one of the placed I really would like to visit. It was featured in one of the "Indiana Jones" movies, where he found the holy grail. Its one of those magical and mysterious places that interest me so much.

Due to the current situation I am defenitely not going to go, since I could become a target for terrorist activity.

The only thing that could possibly make me travel over there is if I found out a family member was injured or in trouble and they needed my help.  I have family in the military over there.  My cousins, my husband's cousins, nobody really close enough to ever warrant my having to get involved.  But if for some reason their own immediate families couldn't go and it was left up to me, I'd be there in a heartbeat.  There's a lot you'd do for family that you wouldn't do otherwise.

Maybe, but seriously what could you do? I think the Military can take care better of their own people than you could? I know it may be hard sitting at home not doing anything, but it may be worse to get involved or in the middle of something you don't understand.

i wouldn’t dear  go to

i wouldn’t dear  go to the middle east, i had the unfortunate experience of being a bit too inquisitive and say something that has scared me for life, the unfortunate event happen in the middle east , and this is one of the reason why i wouldn’t want to go there.

Now you got me quite interested. Sounds like a good story. Care to tell us or is it private?

Do you really want to know,

Do you really want to know, it is pretty gruesome , its on the line on D.

Guess not. Its really up to

Guess not. Its really up to you to decide, since I don't know whats going on.

I would never consider

I would never consider traveling over to the middle East at the moment. Although years ago we had the opportunity to. Do you think the  cease-fire will break? I wonder what will happen if it does?

travel to the middle east

I have no desire to travel to the Middle East. I just feel it is not safe just to go there for a pleasure trip.

terrible

safe VS happy......

of course i choose safe!

then happy:) so, travel to middle east is not right now!

I've traveled in the Middle

I've traveled in the Middle East  but prior to the way it is right now, and it was still an unsettling feeling.  I have British friends who still holiday in Jordan and at the Egyptian beaches ...not me!  Not with an American passport!

I have a friend who will be

I have a friend who will be in Israel the next year, and know many other people who make a trip to Israel at least once a year. I think it depends on the specific area you're staying in...some places are safer than others.

It depends on where I would

It depends on where I would be going.  I'd consider the UAE, Kuwait, maybe Oman.

Give it a try

I love traveling because of the adventure in every experience. Somehow, I am able to conquer the fear of the unknown (no matter how much planning I do). And I think I'd give Middle East a try - depending on where I'll go and of course, within areas where tourists are allowed.

Of course...except Iraq!

Hi all, I went last November...of course I went to "safer countries"...Turkey, Jordan, Israel and Palestinian Territories. I was a bit nervous..especially as an American.   But I had no problems and the people in all of those countries were wonderful.  You can check out my blog and photos from that trip at http://rhoadeslesstraveled.com

It seems some of you don't

It seems some of you don't know much about the middle east.. most of the countries there are even safer than the US! Jordan is a very safe and peaceful place.. same goes to the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain... but in my opinion the interesting places to go would be: Jordan(Petra), Egypt and UAE(Dubai).. So learn more about these places, get real information and plan your next trip.. Enjoy

I'd love to go to Jordan

I'd love to go to Jordan and Turkey.  I've already visited EgyptDubai and the other Emirates might be safe and nice, but they just don't appeal to me.  I think of them as collections of high-rises and odd-shaped artificial islands.

And, of course, the fact that this thread is in the Asia forum represents a bit of a geographic problem!

Not sure where you are going with this. The larger part of the middle east region belongs to Asia.

I was born in the middle

I was born in the middle east and as I was a Indian they local people would spit on my and treat me and my parents very badly I would not life to go there again but my friends tell me that  Dubai is a good place but it is very hot there .

I would love to visit, but

I would love to visit, but the war's and what not that are going on is what is stoping me. I dont know what to do, if nothing is fixed in the next year I think I may go anyways.

You need to look at a

You need to look at a map.  Iraq is pretty far away from most of the middle east, really.  Would you not go to France if there were problems in Germany?

I heard before that that

I heard before that that place was full with tourists and everything. Though after 9-11, not many people really dared go there. Even me. I am not going to say that it can't be a fun stay. I am just saying that I am just to scared of the little bit of chance that I can get into something big, like a gun fight and get caught in the cross fire.

Would you dare to travel to Middle East?

Not for Turkish women. There is lots of family violence against them.
