Greek Islands holiday Help
My sister is off tothe Greek islands in Sept Oct and she is worried about reliability and frequency of ferries to major islands such as Paros, Mykonos, Santorini and Crete.
Is accommodation a problem and car hire, should you book ahead or are you better off fixing it up on arrival?

Hello, Tay, seems that I have read this post very late since it's already October...
So how did the trip went on?
Hi Helen,
My Sister Maureen is still on her trip, but so far having a great time. I will let you know details when she gets back in two weeks time. She has promised me some nice photo's
you should always try and book accomodation in advance, i am looking forward to hearing about your sister Greek Trip.
Why is that? Depending on the season, you may be able to get better deals if you don't. If you travel off season, every hotel is going to want to fill up empty rooms. This will give you a lot of leverage. On the other hand, during the season you will not find anything or have to pay a lot more than if you had a reservation.

even when it is off season, there might be the odd chance of some festival or somethig being kept in the area, where you are spending your holiday and all the hotel might be fully book. i have seen this happen many times, thats the reason why i rather be safe and book a head.
I haven't thought about this. I guess that is true. I wouldn't travel to a foreign country without reservations anyways. I travel a lot in the US and except for holiday weekends I never make reservations. I always keep some travel coupon books and a Best Western atlas and then I call ahead to make a reservation while I am somewhere photographing the sunset. Usually I check in around midnight after the sun has set and I drove to the hotel.

Now I have an idea what the usual travelling photographer's schedule would be like :)
Thanks, Andre!
I look forward to seeing the pictures. I guess it's my way of seeing the world, through other people's pictures. Someday I will go somewhere and have my own pictures to share!! :)
Hi,
September and October are the low season months in Greece, so you won't have problems for finding accommodation and car hire.
Concerning the ferries' frequency you shouldn't have much problems except if there is bad weather (more that 7 beaufort wind)
just wondering if that went ok? Usually you are better off booking ferries and cars in advance since many Greeks who own houses on the islands may decide to visit on a weekend with good weather which may result in shortage of ferry tickets or cars to rent.
