One day trip in Bangkok
Hello friends, On my holidays 5 August 2006 : I getting up at 6.00 a.m. And go to travel around Bangkok buy Bus and Tuk Tuk.
It very fun trip! I visit many temple and the grand palace of Thailand.
The Grand Palace has an area of 218,400 sq. metres and is surrounded by walls built in 1782. The length of the four walls is 1,900 metres. Within these walls are situated government offices and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha besides the royal residences.
The grand Palace open 8.30 a.m.- 3.30 p.m. Photos of The Grand Palace , Photos of The Emeral Buddha
Wat Pho
This is possibly the most interesting temple in Thailand as it combines history, medical science and is a center for meditaion and traditional massage training. Its official name is Wat Phrachetuphon Vimon Mangkararam Ratchaworamahawihan, although it is commonly called Wat Po.
Wat Pho Open daily : 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. Photos of Wat Pho
Wat Ratchanatdaram
Located on Mahachai Road, the temple was built in the reign of King Rama III in 1846. Loha Prasat, the temples main attraction, standing 36 metres high with 37 surrounding spires, is the only one of its kind left in the world. Next to the temple is the area for welcoming an important foreign guest and a memorial statue of King Rama III.

Exactly what I am doing. Most of the time I get up earlier than on a work day, so I can use the full day to explore things.

Quite impressive. Is that real gold plating on the giant statue?
What the heck are those two doing? :

I like that one even better. I really love the architecture of the Temple. I don't bother about statues as much as buildings

LOL. I was wondering why all the Temples were called Wat.
What Ratchanataram?
Is Buddhism the main religion in Thailand?

Looks like something to try out.
I cannot really comment on the healing properties of this treatment, but it does have some erotic quality to it.
On the other hand, judging by the posture of the statues and the face of one of them it looks rather painful.
It almost sounds as if this is still widely practiced. Maybe I should check out if I can get that sort of thing here.

that way of massaging looks painfully , anyone ever heard of spritual tattoos.
Yes I think I saw something like that on the discovery channel.
Most massages / stretchings can look somewhat painfull, but that doesn't mean that you don't feel much better afterwards.
i guess it depends on the individual, do you believe that the spritual tattoos protect people from gun shot wounds and getting stabed.
Obviously not. On that show I saw, people would cut their backs over and over again until their whole skin becomes like a hardened shell of a croc. It was some tribe somewhere. Extremely painful but necessary for them when they became adults.
actually the spritual tatto is the one in thailand the one you are reffering to is a tribe in Papa new Guinea, that one was digusting they wanted there backs to look like the crocodile so the cut there back and rube clay on it, they had a young boy no older than 10 that was doing it also.
You are right, but we cannot judge their beauty standards, considering what some western women do to their bodies (eating pills ...) in order to fit ours.
I was just pointing out the painfull things some cultures do to each other. The same tribe also used to tattoo. They use some sort of sharp and pointy stick, that they dip in charcoal mixed with water. Then they use some sort of small hammer to hammer a tattoo into their bodies. This also looked extremely painful.
Some other tribes extend their necks with rings to look like giraffes and some wear giant disks in their lips.
Yet again, whats the difference to a liposuction? The anesthesia. Afterwards the pain will be very real too.
Yes it is the same tribe that they women tattoo there face with torns from a tree that is also painfully but the women cant show that they are in pain else they will disgrace there familly. i have no problem with them doing there traditional things, as i grow up in a society where people might think some of the stuff i do is weird.
i think it might be painful at some point but extremely rewarding after.

I am not sure about it being rewarding. If it is some sort of test to them or initiation into adulthood, then yes, it can be rewarding. If it is purely decorative as in our culture then people often feel regret.

I once made an essay on Bangkok. I love the idea of that plaza on water. They images I found on the subject were great and they really determined me to wish to get there as soon as possible.
