Amazon drying out
Due to Global Warming? the Amazon basin is drying out. Many species and are threatened and the "Lungs of the Earth" could take permanent damage. If the trees die, water will wash away fertile topsoil and nothing will be able to grow anymore.
One of the most impressive signs is this set of photos, showing the mere trickle that the mighty Iguacu falls have been reduced to.
Under normal conditions (see picture below), the falls carry about 1,500 cubic meters of water per second. Currently this has been reduced to a mere 280 cubic feet. The park is considered one of the natural wonders of this Earth. The falls are 70 meters high.

Unfortunately all these natural wonders are now threatened by global warming, threatening to throw everything off balance.
Tourists who paid big bucks to visit the falls this year have been very disappointed. The drought is expected to last until October.

I remember back in Arequipa Peru, our tourguide was also talking about a drought that had the region in its grip for several years already. He squarely blamed Global Warming for the disaster.

Those pictures are really nice, i guess everything adds up that dam that they created in Brazil caused a lot of damage in that area, they had on the news also that, people in brazil where cutting down too much of the forest to create soy beans for chick feed.

I am not sure I would put all of the blame on Brazil. Look at the recent drought in Spain, Portugal and England. I think cutting down the rainforest is just part of the problem of a major climate change.
I think we will see a lot of floods and droughts, storms and other weather related desasters in the future.
I think we have to do all we can to avoid this.

Thats very sad, but when I do as an individual to prevent global warming?
Avoid the release of CO2 into the atmosphere.
I wasn’t putting all the blame on Brazil i was just stating one of the continuing factors from my point of view. The fact is cutting down the rain forest for chick feed isn’t necessary, there are other ways of feed chickens. Yes there are other countries especially the USA who has added to this green house effects. The whole world has been experiencing Droughts, floods and strange weather activities for the last seven years. If the whole world don’t agree on some way of cutting down on pollution this will only continue.

Just wanted to make sure everyone else understood that we are all responsible. I know Brazil is cutting down the rainforest at record speed and this is also something the international community has to put pressure on them to stop. Unfortunately, priorities nowadays are with killing each other instead of saving the planet. Hopefully this will one day change.
As long as money is being made with pollution and as long as we think its too inconvenient to change, nothing will change. I completely agree with you.
How good is it if a small country is doing all it can while there are virtually no laws against pollution in China. Unfortunatley to them growth is everything. They don't even consider being environmentally responsible.

i personally feel that the usa will only go and fight or should i say Liberate somewhere only if they have something to gain. i guess the weather isnt hot enough for people to really start thinking of minimizing pollution.
Lets face it. All countries are pretty much alike and only do what they can benefit from, or what makes them look good for the next election. I don't know of any country that acts selfless?
I think the people have to force their governments to do this. However first people have to admit this. Unfortunately according to a recent study I have seen, 50% of the poplulation in the USA still believe there is no such thing as global warming (the highest number of all countries in the study)

%50 that is really sad, i guess it is much more difficult for the larger countries to teach a very large population about the effects of global warming. Best place to start is with younger kids in school.
I found the graphic again:
On a very interesting website:

Not sure if that is where I initially found it.

it is really bad that only 26% of british people worry about GW a great deal but 19% for such as large country as the united states that is really bad.
Yeah. Considering the US is by far the largest polluter in the world and does about 3 times as much damage per person than the next dirty country in line, its a real shame.
It's a country of extremes though. Even though people in Europe believe in it, they are expecting others (Scientists?) to solve the problem for them, while people in the US try to take (some) matters into their own hands.
I also see a lot of hybrid cars on the roads today, but I guess this is mainly due to some gov. regulations. You get some nice tax savings and you can use the fast lane (carpool lane) with your hybrid, even though you have no passangers.

What are you writing? What global warming?
I haven't seen any conclusive evidence of anything like this.
Lets face it, throughout the history of the earth there have been periods that were warmer and periods that were colder. The earth is a system in motion. The last couple of hundred years with a relatively stable climate were the exception not the rule. The climate has sometimes changes so violently and drastically that lots of animals died out. All of this has happened before, without human interference.
Even though there is more CO2, the warmer atmosphere will lead to more cloud cover, which means a cooling effect.
I really cannot see any connection and quite frankly I am wondering why so many people believe otherwise. Seems to me some people cannot think straight anymore.
Sure, ignore the problem until even the last ignorant person can see it. Of course then it may be to late to turn back.
I still think that we must be proative rather than reactive to what has been happening around us, especially with what is happening to our only home, the planet earth.
In our own little ways, we can help save the planet. However, many more people are destroying it. Perhaps aside from refraining from using these sprays, polluting the earth with our non-biodegradable trash, we can also start to support campaigns against illegal logging and the like, which is done almost in all countries having the resources. Instill in our students the value of the environment more than commerce and money. If everybody does this, I believe that we could slow down global warming.
It is so sad to see what has happened to Amazon River and Iguaco Falls. I couldn't believe that they can dry out like that.
Unfortunetely, today you cannot do that much.
Even if you take the bike to go to the grocery store to buy food, you are hurting the environment. I have read somewhere that in order to get 1 pound of food on our table, about 5 pounds of oil are being burned. On the field, fertilizer and most important transportation. Unfortunately transportation is sometimes completely unnecessary. Sometimes corn is shipped to another country, because its cheaper to bake bread there and then re-imported to sell the bread. What a stupid thing.
Most things that are being shipped back and fourth between countries could be avoided or trains instead of trucks could be used. There is so much more that has to change on a much higher level (governments).
