Los Apus Hotel - Cusco, Peru
The Los Apus Hotel in Cusco (Peru) was certainly the best hotel of our entire trip. Fortunately it was also the place where we stayed the longest.

What made this hotel so special was its outstanding staff. The staff was a good mix of younger students making a couple of bucks on the side and experienced people from the hotel business. Everyone felt responsible for everything, so you never had to wait for anything. Upon our arrival the cook happened to be near the reception area. He grabbed our luggage and took it up to the room.
The staff helped us to make travel arrangements, booked a really affordable taxi for us (so we wouldn't get ripped off) and were always around for our convenience.

The hotel is a smaller privately run hotel with lots of stairs and hallways. No two rooms are completely alike and everything is built custom. In the picture above you can see the reception area and part of the downstairs restaurant and breakfast tables. The hotel has also a (very small) restaurant upstairs. From here you can have fantastic views over the city (see image below).

Overall we enjoyed our stay here very much and when we will come back to Cusco we will make sure to make reservations ahead of time to make sure that we will get a room.
If you plan to come for the summer solstice festivals, you need to make reservations far ahead of time. When we were in this hotel (December), we saw signs saying that they were already booked out for those two weeks in Summer. Apparently the whole city will be booked out months ahead of time.
If you are going to Cuzco and you are looking for a really good and affordable place, I can only recommend the Los Apus.
