Home Exchange

Home Exchange

Would you do home exchange as a vacation?

Never

I think the damage can be much more than the savings. Quite honestly I don't like the idea of someone else in my home, just so I can safe a couple of bucks. Maybe even going through my stuff?

How

How does it work? Do I have to own a house or can I exchange my apartment for a nice house in Hawaii? Smile

I guess you have to own a house to do this. Maybe there is an apartment exchange too?

sometimes the exchange

Sometimes the exchange aren’t equally match but i guess its up to you to look at the pictures that they provide you of there homes and make your decision. But i wouldn’t want people to snoop around my home when i am not there. Some people really love doing this though the claim it’s the best holiday that they have had Laughing. i guess they don’t travel a lot.

I wonder who would ever do

I wonder who would ever do this. My home is my private sanctuary. Lots of private documents and other things that really should stay private. Unless I had a big room that I could lock where all my documents, bills and other stuff could be placed, I would never want people to live in my home. Even then it feels like someone would desecrate my private grounds, violate my comfort zone .... It's hard to express, I just know I wouldn't do it.

I dont think I would feel

I dont think I would feel comfortable doing this, but I know in Australia this is a big thing at the moment. There was a television show on the other day and people where saying that just love doingit and end up having a great holiday without the expense of accomadation. They do a screening before deciding on the people to swap with but still there are no guarantee's.

No way!  I don't want

No way!  I don't want strangers in my house.  Going through my things, sleeping on my sheets, having sex on my bed.  Ewwww!!!  The thought of it is just creepy.  I would feel invaded.  The same way I'd feel if my home was broken into.  It's just too uncomfortable for me to even think about.

The only way I might consider something like this is if I owned a vacation home somewhere, like a lake cabin or something.  Someplace where I didn't keep private personal stuff.  We used to own a little getaway cabin and there was nothing really personal kept there.  If we still had something like that, I might consider it.  But I'd just really have to carry sheets back and forth with me so I'd be sure nobody else could ever sleep (or do anything else) on them.  And, I'd probably have to flip the mattress too.

Ya know.... thinking about this, I'd probably still be uncomfortable even in the vacation home scenario, so I'm just going to give this one a big old "NO WAY!!"  lol

you are talking about your

you are talking about your bed and sheets, did you ever consider that when you stay iin hotels the beds and sheet are slept on by strangers all the time , do you normally carry your own sheets when you are travelling. i do understand that your home contains alot more private stuff so it can be a bit weird thinking of some total stranger going over your things.

True. But most hotels have a reputation to loose (at least the decent ones). This means they will clean the sheets. I also have someone there where I can get complaints across or simply request another room if the one I am in is not that clean.

There are other things. I don't sit down on the toilett in a hotel, but I do so at home. I don't shower barefooted in a hotel but at home (don't want to catch fungi). I don't walk around barefooted in a hotel either. There are quite a number of things I don't feel comfortable doing in a hotel and I wouldn't feel comfortable anymore at home I guess.

If you ever encounter dirty sheets in a hotel, just let us know by posting in the review section of the forum Foot in mouth

I'm really weird about

I'm really weird about hotels.  I take my own pillow and a blanket with me.  I sleep on my pillow, on top of their covers and cover up with my own blanket.  I don't touch their sheets or pillow cases.  I also take my own towels (mostly because hotel towels are small and rough and they never leave enough of them).

 the police where trying

the police where trying to find out two missing persons, they trace the last location to a hotel where they had team go through all the rooms to see if there where any trace of blood, everything came back negative, until the police got a lead that something went down in room 222, after checking every where the police decide to turn the mattress over to find it soaked with blood, it seem as if the staff or maybe it was the murders turn the mattress over to hide the bloody stains now isn’t that disgusting.

Ngee, that sounds so yucky

Ngee, that sounds so yucky and disgusting. Well, we also have to think that perhaps, they sterilize their sheets (well, I hope they do, I am not quite sure of that) coz if you look at the hotels' towels and sheets, they really look great.

As to home exchange, I can't imagine that kind of thing being practiced in other countries. It is not applicable in ours in any way.
