San Diego Zoo
My brother will be travelling on a business trip to San Diego in July. He has two small children, five and four year old who are going to travel over with him and his wife so they can have a two week vacation at the same time as the business conference. Has anyone been to the SanDiego Zoo and Sea World. He would love to know what they are like and if they are worth seeing?

I hear that See World is excellent. I have been in the Zoo and it was a one of a kind experience. The San Diego Zoo is defenitely one of the best. It is arranged more like a theme park and it is world famous. Here are some photos I took there:

San Diego Zoo seems much better than the zoo here in london if you can call it that, the only have cows and camels basically, the american zoo's seems to have a wide avriety of animals.

Maybe you should also consider the Wild Animal Park near San Diego. I will be going there in 2 weeks. Will let you know how it is like.

I just came in from San Diego.
This time I went to the Wild Animal Park.
Although I really loved the park, it was really expensive.
Here is the quick rundown:
Entrance Fee for 2 with AAA discount: $52
Two hour safari for 2: $180
Two Sandwiches and Two Cokes: $25
3 Water Bottles and one ICEE: $20
2 tiny iced coffee: $8
The safari was not really what I had expected. It was a photo safari, that lead through two of their enclosures. Unfortunately it was a photo opportunity where you could get your photo taken with Rhino's and Giraffes, instead of the African Safari kind of thing that I have had in mind. Although it was interesting to be able to feed a Rhino and pet it on its nose, it didn't feel really wild and we spent way too much time in one spot waiting for the animals and then giving everyone a chance to feed them.
There is a monorail running around the enclosures, but you cannot get up close and personal.
If you are wondering why the "Ballon Safari" is only $15, wonder no more. It is a teathered ballon with a giant platform that just goes up and down. I have no idea why thy call it a safari. Fortunately I didn't book it. Would have been a waste of my time.
The cats (lions, tigers ...) are lazy and you may have trouble seing them, since they may be hiding under some tree all day. I was able to get some nice lion photos but the other cats were too far away, even with my long zoom.
My favorites were the meerkats, they are so funny.
The Wild Animal Park is still a wonderful place to visit, especially with children. Since all the money goes to save animals, I didn't mind the prices. The park is a non profit organization.
I will show you some photos next week.

In our place, there are no more real zoos where you can find many kinds of animals. This place would be a very good place to visit. I really love to watch these different kinds of animals and my kids would be very happy to be able to see in reality those which they have only seen in the books and in the tv/movies.
BTW, thanks for the photos, Andre.
San diego zoo is so cool, but I feel sorry for the animals even if they take care good for them
I like your pics

True, but then there are way worse zoo's. Also Zoos are sometimes the last refuge for endangered species where they have breeding programs.
Its also a place for Children to learn about conservation and the beauty of nature, so hopefully they won't make the same mistakes we do.
Otherwise I agree with you.

When I was in college, my sister lived in San Diego. I visited her during spring break, and she took me to the wild animal park. I loved it so much. I really got the feeling that they were trying to maintain these animals in as natural a habitat as possible.
And even though I would rather see animals in the wild than in zoos, I have to acknowledge realistically that human encroachment on animal territory is making many animals extinct in the wild. If we want to see them, zoos may soon be our only option.
