computers

i am constantly using my computer so there are times when i feel like it is driving my head in.Do you ever get sick of your  computer?

Not anymore

Not really. I am only using laptops and they are much less prone to system failures as the self built computers I used 10 years ago. I tend to replace them after 1.5years anyways.

The last time I felt this way was when I tried to install my first Linux (Slackware, Kernel version 0.9.3). Back then there were no installers or anything else. Took me two weeks to get X running in high res mode.

Now, computers are my humble servants. They constantly encode a homevideo, stitch a large mosaic or do something else useful. I do get sick of my computer only by overusing them. Sometimes I swear not to check my email for a couple of hours and find myself doing exactly this 30min later.

I guess that's my

I guess that’s my problem I am overusing my computer and I am going against all the practical ergonomic rules.

Computer Addict

I have found myself a computer addict because I do most of my work in it. I have an online job and it sticks me to this box most of the time. However, I enjoy working with computers. They educate me of so many different things which I haven't known before. Also, if you really are interested in learning, there are many free opportunities in the net. You may be paying for connection , electricity, PC, but you are actually gaining if you make the most out of it.

Eyes

Since I have been spending a lot of time on computers (through work and hobbies) my eyes have become really bad. I used to have better then 20/20 vision, now i am severely nearsighted. It all started when I was doing my thesis on the computer, spending 12hrs or more each day in front of a CRT screen.

My advice would be to take frequent brakes. Even if you are just looking somewhere else but remain put. Focus your eyes on some distant object for at least 5 minutes each hour to avoid the problems I have.

i use to have that problem maybe a year ago but now the computer doesn’t hurt my eyes at all and i am on the computer from 10 to 1 the following morning, i thought my eyes were getting worst but my optician has told me that i don’t even need glass even though i have been wearing glass for 3 years.

I used to get extremely sick of my computer because it would crash almost everytime I opened internet explorer.  The stupid thing had me rebooting and running scan disk at least a dozen times a day.  Finally I just gave up.  My huband suggested we just share the laptop for internet purposes.  I have my old one, with no internet, for doing things like my budget, and other stuff that doesn't require internet.  I rarely get sick of the laptop.

How come I am not surprised.

If you have to live with Windows (most of us do), just do a fresh installation, then run all possible updates. Then get AdAware and some Virus Tools and run them, since you will already be infected after this brief period of downloading updates.

Then download the Firefox browser and never open Internet Explorer again, unless you are behind a triple firewall Sealed

since i have staretd using

since i have staretd using firefox in January i have never looked at I.e again for some reason i feel exposed with i.e, firefox does has its own problem when it comes to memory, i have notice that it uses up to 300mb on sometimes.

I use IE and Firefox for

I use IE and Firefox for different purposes. When I need to open a site that is slow, I use IE but for most of the time, I use firefox as it is more practical.

With regards to computer usage and my eyes, since I am near-sighted, it is not hard for me to work in my PC. It was much harder when I work outside before coz I can't see the people at a far distance.

Thanks, Andre for sharing how to rest our eyes while in the PC most of the time, it is very relevant and useful for us onliners.
