Fatima-Portugal
This is realy something who scandalised me! Let me know what you think about it!
I'm use to going to portugal at least every two years and everytime we do go we make the effort to go to Fatima, even though we aren't very catholique (fatima is the saint town in portugal, as Lourdes is in France, Jerusalem in Israel or La mecqua in Saudia Arabia) and light a candle for both our dads who died a few years back ... the last time we went i was deeply shocked, they had knocked half of the place down to modernise it and make it bigger to attract more people. It looked horrible!!!
On one side you have this true ,authentique religious building that has crossed all the ages and suddenly you turn your head and see this structure who looks like it's straight out of star trek... Once more i was just so shocked and terribly disapointed.... what do you think, is my reaction excessive?

Nope. I think you are right to be upset about this. Change is always hard. Whenever you haven't been to a place in a long time you will be somewhat frustrated.
I have been to Mexico for the second time in less than 3 years and I was shocked by the level of development. Everything went towards the all inclusive tourists taste. It was horrible. Of course this doesn't quite compare to what you experienced, but I know what you mean.
Do you have any photos to document the change?

That sounds really bad. I'd hate if something like this happens. I guess you should be frustrated, I know I would be.
I guess they weren’t thinking about the overall impact the modernization would have on the surrounding. You have a right to be upset. They should have at least built some thigh that would have blended in more with the older surrounding buildings.
Beach Holiday
I dont blame you for feeling this way, I would to. We have spent a couple of holidays now in Portugal and I really enjoy holidaying there. The area they call “The silver Coast”, Costa de Prata, is very beautiful. There are beautiful cities, beaches, nature etc. You can go there and make a lot of beautiful walks. In cities like Peniche, Nazaré and Óbidos you can find good restaurants, but of course also in the other cities of this area.
Reading all your posts here makes me think that Portugal might be one of my future travel destinations :)
Change isn't always a good thing. If they were going to build a new structure, they should have at least gone with an older style to better match its surroundings. Its really too bad they don't put more thought into "progress".
