Amtrak
Have you ever taken a trip by Amtrak? My husband and I took the train one Christmas to be with his family. It was nice to be able to just ride and not have to worry about driving. This was when we lived in Michigan, my parents would watch the dogs anytime, so we didn't have that worry then. Amtrak has comfy seats, a nice food car, it's really a pleasant experience. We've talked about taking a trip someday and getting a sleeper car next time.
Not with Amtrac but with the Andean Explorer
This is a scenic ride through Peru.
I am usually an advocate of car traveling, but I liked this trip so much, that I thought many times about taking another scenic train ride. There are some phantastic rides up in Alaska.
Does Amtrak have some nice scenic routes? I really don't care just taking the train for transportation, but I'd love to go on another scenic ride.

I've taken Amtrak but not on overly long trips. Two things to note about Amtrak is that it is often longer than driving, because of the stops and, sometimes, transfers and it is usually as expensive as a plane, depending on where you are going. So if you want to take Amtrak, do it to take the train, not to save time or money.
