When the water isn't safe.......
What do you usually drink? My dad had to go to Mexico for business a lot. And he always drank beer with his meals because someone told him it was safe. He never drank beer at home, only in Mexico. Because he wasn't sure what else was safer. If that was the only choice I was given, I don't know what I'd do. So, what do you drink when you're traveling, when you know the water isn't safe?

Bottled water is always safe. The only thing you have to be careful about is tab water.
In restaurants you just ask for bottled water and no ice in the glass (its made from tab water). Then you are safe.
This is correct I always only drink bottled water. If the Restarant does not have it I don't drink tap water. I think bottled cordial would be ok. My brother made the mistake of drinking water in Thialand last year. It upset his stomach so much that he didn't end up enjoying his trip so he has gone back over there leaving today.
If you are worried, you can also buy water purification tablets. I did this before going to Peru, but then they had bottled water everywhere. Even in the most remote places, there were always people who were making a few cents by selling them to the tourists. I never ended up using the tablets.
I bought a set. One tablets makes the water drinkable and the other one neutralizes the taste of the first one. I can't say if it works, since I never opened them.

I never heard of water purification tablets. What a great invention. About the bottled water, how can you be sure it's safe? Is it the same brands of bottled water you can get here? I'd worry that bottled water in another country might just be that country's water in a bottle.
It's not always the same, unless you want to pay premium. Any country that is just a little bit concerned about tourism doesn't need that kind of publicity. Bottled water is ALWAYS purified.
Don't worry. If the water has a label on it and the bottle is closed it should be safe to drink. If you are worried, just take the tablets. You should be able to get them at most sporting goods stores. I think the problem with them is taste (thats where the second tablet comes in).

The days of boiling water is gone most smaller countries are now using bottled water so there is no need to worry about getting sick from bad water.
