If you're going on a vacation where you'll be buying a lot of souvenirs...
Here's a trick I learned a few years back. If you're going on a vacation to somewhere that you know you'll be bringing back a lot of souvenirs, pack your clothes in one suitcase, and put that suitcase inside a slightly larger empty suitcase. You'll only have one suitcase to deal with on the trip there, and you'll have tons of room for souvenirs on the way home.

I only do this when going to Germany. I usually fill the small suitcase with chocolate and some other delicacies. Otherwise I have learned to avoid buying souveniers. Usually they end up cluttering my appartment and get thrown out sooner or later
.
I rather take some more pictures as hard drive storage does not take away any physical space.

Usually when we go somewhere, everybody says "bring me a souvenir". We've bought enough t-shirts, sweatshirts, snowglobes, books, videos, and other cutesy junk to start a souvenir shop the size of walmart. lol. But that's part of the fun of the vacation. And, we almost always have to bring back a little something for ourselves too.
Gee thanks for the advise Scooter. I have never thought of this. It is a tradition in our family to always purchase souvnenir's from each country or State we travel to and it can be disappointing when we have to miss someone due to excess lugage. We have all the souvenir's my late Grandmother, who died at the age of 80, 20 years ago ever bought back from her travel's. They are a lovely keep sake to pass down I suppose. Even though they take up a lot of room. But I would never throw them out.
We are always buying things for our family no matter where we go. I try to stick with things I know they like. I agree it takes up a lot of room. The idea of putting a soitcase inside of another one is a great idea. Thank you for the idea I am going to try this.
That really is a good idea. I usually take one of those soft bags that folds into its own pouch, but sometimes that's not sturdy enough. If I'm traveling somewhere like Indonesia, where they make duffle bags out of batik fabric, I buy one of them and use it for the overflow.
Great idea! I wish I'd read this thread before I left on my Alaska trip because I have an office full of coworkers, all who want some souvenir from Alaska. I just picked up little things, and luckily I was able to get them all tucked away in my suitcase, but I think I may have defied the laws of physics to do it!
i also pack a soft cloth bag into my suitcase for that purpose. It takes up next to no room and cloth is better for the environment that vinyl or other synthetics.
I have never in all my vacations thought of doing something like this. This is an awesome idea. We always come home with way more than we left with and this will help out alot. Thanks for passing this one along.
