The Grand Hotel - Macinac Island Michigan

The Grand Hotel - Macinac Island Michigan

I was raised in Michigan, but the first time I ever learned about Macinac Island was through a movie called Somewhere In Time.  The movie starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymore, if you've never seen it, you should rent it.

The movie took place on Macinac Island, and it was the only time a car was actually allowed there.  Transportation on Macinac Island is by car or bicycle.  The hotel in the movie The Grand Hotel, actually exists on Macinac Island.  A big, beautiful old hotel where you actually have to wear suits or evening gowns after 6:00 pm.

I had a chance to go to Macinac Island and stay at the Grand Hotel during a "Somewhere In Time" Weekend several years ago.  People dressed in costume from the early 1900's, the time the movie was set.  It was truly a sight to see.

If you're ever looking for somewhere totally different to go for a vacation or just a short getaway, Macinac Island would be my recommendation.  You don't have to stay at the Grand, there are other less expensive hotels on the Island.  One is right across the street from the boat dock.  If you ever have the chance to go, you won't regret it.  And.... be sure to bring your camera.

Reminds me of that movie by Shyamalan (The Village). I find places like that a little creepy .

Don't know, its probably nice there but I am not sure that I could take it

LOL, its nothing at all

LOL, its nothing at all like The Village.  At least rent Somewhere In Time before you make a final decision on Macinac Island.  I'm telling you, it's a beautiful place.

Fair enough

Fair enough. I will see if Netlflix has it. Didn't mean to step on your toes. Sometime I drive through California at night in an area that is not populated a lot and it sends shivers down my spine. I guess I have seen too many X-Files episodes.

LOL, every secluded area is not a setting for "Wrong Turn" (did you happen to see that one?) but I do understand how open areas of nothingness can give you an uneasy feeling.  I get the creeps if I pass a cemetery at night, especially out on a secluded country road.  Guess we both spend too much time watching creepy movies.  Ya didn't step on my toes at all... I just try to get everybody to watch that movie because I think it so awesome. :)
