I'm hereby withdrawing my bet on Italy, as Italy has currently got the biggest football scandal ever going on and I cannot imagine that the players will be psychologically strong enough to make it to the final, let alone win the Cup.

My bet is on Germany, because I beleive Germany will beat England in the Final. I'd personally prefer a Germany-Brazil Final again like 4 years ago, but I'm afraid England will beat Brazil in the semifinal

Hm. You may be right, as we already have 2 bets on Brazil. The way I see it, you could still bet on Argentina and just mention that you believe Germany wins, but bet on Argentina anyways. It's still a better chance to win something

Germany made a good start to the world cup but they need to defend much better if they are to win the competition.

Hm, bad news for you and lpstrong I guess.

I am hoping they will improve as the go through the different rounds, poland lost yesterday so hopefully in the next round the will play sweden, they will have a better chance of beating sweden than they would england.

Germany play a completely different football style than they did 4 years ago. They used to focus on defense, and Klinsmann changed the focus to offense. Critics call it "offensive HURRAH!-Football". The team invite very clearly the opponent to shoot goals, but they are good enough to shoot one or two more, so they can win. I hope this tactics is successful. At least it was in the Confed Cup...Anyway, it's more exciting to watch matches like this, isn't it?

@callis: They may even play Paraguay in the next round....

they have better attacking players than they do defence thats why i think theu focus on a more attacking game. they just dont have Good central defenders. It was really good watching germany play yesterday the score some of the best goals i have ever seen in a long time. @sunflower at the moment it does look as if it might be paraguay and i am sure germany will be able to beat them.

poor australia..has no recognition, so im just saying go australia XDD they had a cool comeback in the japan aust game <:o)

Hurray for Australia. Go Aussies go. The next one will be a lot tougher. All the best to them. Maybe Crocodile Dundee will have an upper hand with the strong Brazilians, doubtful since they are not  crocs, but I surely hope so.

Good news for the Germany supporters. Germany defence improved a lot ! Anyway they had a lot of 100% chances to score but the ball just woudn't go in. But they worked hard and scored in extra time. This proves you can't write Germany off until the referee blows the final whistle.

They defended much better this time round but the attackers where able to do there jobs until the last minute. i am glad they are through but now the job gets more difficult. Do you think they will be able to beat Ecuador?

Yes, they are able to beat Ecuador. Germany usually like to play South and Central American teams. They have trouble beating European teams. They had not beaten any European team in a tournament in 10 years!!! ...until yesterday...

They'll have trouble playing the Netherlands, Czech Republic, or Italy, even the next round with England or Sweden will be tough but I think the Ecuador match should not be much of a problem.

Well, I can be wrong...We'll see next Tuesday....

I doubt it will be interesting. Holland was pretty weak today, although they won the match. My bet is Argentina....

they didnt look that good but at least there werent playing like a one man team(i.e Robben), the played really well in the first half and in the second they were very weak in midfield.

I'd love to see Germany - England in the Final. The Chances of France beating Brazil are not so good. 

The moderator on ESPN called this game the "clash of the titans". He pretty much nailed it with this comment. The game was very powerful. During the first half the Argentinian Team dominated the game but they tired themself out too much. After a 1:0 for Argentina in the 49th minute, Klose managed to even with a 1:1 in the 80st minute. After the overtime play of 30 minutes the game went into the penalty kick phase, where Lehmann proved his strength and saved two balls.

It was certainly a very good game. Both teams gave 110% and were very strong.

I placed a bet with the bookies yesterday, so when Germany wins I will have no trouble paying to send out the pictures :-)

This game was even more exciting than the Germany-Poland game. I bet there are some fans who suffered from heart attacks on the German side as well as in Argentina. I was pretty close to a nervous breakdown....

Of course Germany is going to win. They'll be playing in the Dortmund Westphalia Stadium. Germany has never lost a game in Dortmund (13 games so far...and they have not lost a single one.) So I guess they won't start losing in the World Cup semi.

Yesterday match agianst argentina was a close one if the argentine manager didnt get too happy and take Riquelme off then  may be they would have won the game.

In world cup 1998 noone thought france would be able to beat brazil and look what happen , i really dont thnk brazil are playing that well the japanese were able to cut through brazil and score defence , so a better team will make brazil pay. France didnt start off well but they are slowly playing better, i cant wait to see the match tonight.

Anyway, if I get this right, I am the only one left with an active bet on Portugal.

My 1st bet was Italy, but I withdrew it because of the Italian scandal, but I guess whole Italy is nothing but a scandal, just look at the Frings story.

And when I recall the Italy-Australia game when Italy got a Penalty Shoot in the 93th minute when it wasn't even a Foul, I am still sorry for Australia....

Well thats so unfortunate for Germany. Especially since the Goal happened in the 119th minute. I had already settled for penalty kicks and have seen the German team advancing. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this mishap. Unbelievable. The Italians were acting out every little fall they took like sissies, trying to get the Germans penalized.

The Italian team would defenitely deserve to win a world cup in acting!

The Italians have gone megalomaniac. An Italian reporter said last night:

"The Pope is German but God is Italian"

Anyway, my bet was England but I am sorry for Germany as they played attractive football. 4 years ago they were finalists. Now they are playing better but got beaten in the semifinal. Fortune wasn't with Germany last night. It's a shame that Italy are through to the final. It would be a scandal if  Italy won the World Cup. Actually they were supposed to keep their corruptive scandal where it belongs - at home in Italy.

So, I'm hoping Portugal (or France) will defend the honour of Europe and beat Italy in the Final and send the crying babies home to Mama in Roma....

wohoo France to the final , i hope france will give the italians a wipping , the two teams that are in the final where so unexpected both teams had problems before the world cup yet they were able to play pretty well and advance to the final.

Hopefully the French will show the Italians their way home, but you never know, the Italians have a lot of dirty tricks up their sleeves. I never thought I'd be cheering for France.

Germany scored some of th best goals in this years world cup, Lahn scored a cracker in the first match, i just wished it was germany not itlay in the final.

A lot of people wanted France to lose but seems to me the favor teams always losing at the end. Anyway, will support for Italy instead.

They sports channels are saying that France is the favourite i would love if they win but itlay will give them a really stern test, they loving defending then they hit you on the counter attack and score.

Germany beat Portugal 3:1 and won the Final of Hearts (although Germany played with the B-Team)...Thus Germany claimed the 3rd place at the FIFA World Cup 2006.

Pretty cool match, and above all 4 goals. I doubt the Final tomorrow will be as entertaining as this game was.

Entertaining or not, my prayers and hopes are going to be with France.

Yup, Germany won 3:1. I didn't watch the match since i was too tired from working but i did check the result. So they secure for a 3rd place. Didn't German get a 3rd place too last season (4 years ago)? Maybe i'm mistaken.

Well the French captain hasn't exactly won my sympathies tonight either. I don't know what really happened either. 

i am glad i didnt watch the match my head was telling me that italy would win , but my heart wanted france to win i am so disappointed the italians won.
