Please Vote on the Future of the Forum.
I realize that this forum is not quite up to speed to standalone versions such as phpBB or vBulletin. On the other hand it is fully integrated into this site and more secure than most other BB software.
Installing a standalone BB will have some drawbacks (mainly for me), as this means I have to maintain two software packeges and keep them updated (security), the style does not integrate as easily (again more work for me) and a lot of hacks have to be installed to get the sidebars working (if ever).
On the other hand a standalone BB software would have a lot more features. I don't know how many of those features would be used anyways.
I am going to add email subscriptions to this forum soon (so you can monitor a thread and get an email) and maybe some sort of email push to members who enable it or PM function (not sure yet). At the same time I am going to make this more visually appealing (as I get some time) and maybe add BBCode (similar to vB and phpBB). Beyond that, there wont be a lot of enhancements to the features unless I start installing either phpBB or vB.
Anways, you can voice your opinion by replying or by voting on the poll (low right hand side, shown on all threads).

I have added email subscriptions now. Below the first post of each thread you will find a subscribe button. Once you subscribed, you will receive an email if someone adds a new post. By clicking the unsubscribe butten you can remove your subscription.
Please do not label emails as spam but unsubscribe properly, since I do not want to end up on any blacklist.
I am not 100% sure yet if it works correctly or not, or if the email will end up in your spam folder. Please verify that it works for you before relying on it.
You can also automatically subscribe to threads you reply to. In order to enable this feature, click on "my account" in the left sidebar. Then click on edit and select the option on this page.
You can also subscribe to a complete Forum section. Please use "my subscriptions" in the left sidebar to enable this.

Works for me, also seems to be a great forum does not really need any updating. Great work on integrating and security!
