Mono Lake

Mono Lake

Do you happen to know some good places to stay around the Mono Lake area?

I’m planning a 10 days trip there; your help would be appreciated.

Hello Mario,your best bet

Hello Mario,

your best bet would be either Mammoth Lakes south of Mono Lake (about 45 minutes) or Bridgeport north of Mono Lake. Lee Vining (directly at Mono Lake) has a very limited selection of Motels and is almost always booked.

The last time I went there, I stayed in Mammoth Lakes. It is a Ski Resort Town with a lot of Hotels in every category, restaurants and everything you need. Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls are very near.

I have not stayed in Bridgeport, but I heard its a very nice town to the north of Mono Lake with plenty of Hotels. You will be closer to Bodie, in case you would like to be there in the Morning or so.

I would say Mammoth Lakes is your best bet as it has a large selection. If you have 10 days, I would not stay all this time in the Area. You can do 1-day Bodie, 1-day Mono Lake, 1-day Devils PP and Rainbow Falls. That is plenty of time for each of them (actually too much).

You should spend two days in Yosemite (my fav. park). For overnight stays around Yosemite I recommend El Portal, the Cedar Lodge. It is comparable to the Yosemite View Lodge but cheaper and maybe 10 minutes further away from the Entrance.

You can also drive 395 up to Lake Tahoe. Last time we stayed in a casino in South Lake Tahoe.

If you are coming from L.A., take 395. It is a very beautiful drive.
