What parts of Europe should we see
Me and my brother are flying into London (we're from Canada) on Aug 2, from there we are going to Ireland for a week or so to visit relatives. After that it's fair game.
Anyone have any adivce or tips on the places to be. We have about 3 weeks. We were thinking about going mostly through Eastern Europe. I am supposed to be planning out the trip as we speak so any first hand info would be great.
Any really big events going on that time of year?

Personally I like Spain and Portugal best. Portugal reminded me a lot of California. Its a very relaxed and laid back country. Spain is pretty cool too.
In 3 weeks you can take take the grand tour: Germany -> Czech Republic -> Italy -> Switzerland -> France -> Spain -> Portugal.
Berlin, Munich, Dresden are my fav. cities in Germany. Prague in the Czech Republic is the ultimate Party town and a nice baroque city. Rome (Italy) is a very nice Destination. I have never been to Switzerland. Paris (France) is wonderful, Seville (Spain) and Barcelona (Spain) are not to be missed, Lissabon (Portugal) and the Algarve (southern Portugal) would make a nice relaxed finish.
In Summer there are always open air concerts.
Too bad you are not going earlier. On July 15th the Love Parade will be in Berlin again. Usually there are 1.5 Million people at the largest open air party in the world.
Maybe you can tour Europe before going to London and see the Love Parade.

How about my hometown of Barcelona?
Shows, bars, discotheques, concerts, terraces and popular fiestas are just a few of the choices that the city offers for enjoying the Mediterranean night.

I liked Barcelona and Munich the most. I don't know how it is since I was only there on a sunday. I also liked England.
My daughter is going to be travelling to Barcelona in September this year. Any suggestions on places she should see? She is an 19 year old uni student. And wants to travel before finishing here teacher's degree.
Defenitely Portugal. Just found some old pictures when I was cleaning. If I get around to scan them I can show you how beautiful it is there.
tay: Barcelona has a vibrant nightlife (not sure you want your daughter there
). The historic downtown is beautiful, but traffic is pretty bad (at least used to be). Maybe she can book a guided tour.

Slovenia is a really lovely part of Europe. I recently was speaking to two candains who had come and they were loving there trip. It isnt eastern Europe is central but is easy then to go onto hungary crotia and further east. What can i tell you . I used to live in England but now i moved to Ljubljana ( capitail of Slovenia) after a few great holidays here. It is a very young country and as such it hasnt gotten a lot of the commercail stuff going on that most of the western country has. They drink Cokta instead of coca cola ( orginally from crotia ) Which is absloutelty lovely.
Ljublaja is that kind of busy city... during the weekdays .. but on the evenings and weekends .. its like almost leafy .. people sitting drinking a coffee ... trees hanging over.. as the river winds it way through the centre. Absloutelty lovely. A few monks or nuns might pass you as the many churches strike the hour. Lovely red topped houses can be seen like a little italy from the castle ( perched on top of a high peak in the centre) great buidlings .. usally some street artists playing contemary or tradtional music. Art installation scattered around the city... i could spend hours discribing it.

I highly recommend this place .. it is wonderfull.

Eastern Europe is interesting choice since the most of the people first time travelling around Europe choose Western or Southern part (France, Spain, Itlay, portugal etc.) However there are lots of really interesting places to see. places I'd suggest to see is Greece, Croatia, Slovania, Slovakia and also Czech Republic. You can take a flight to one of Greece Airports (e.g. Thessaloniki) and then travel up to the North.
Wish you to enjoy your trip!
well .....Europe is very beautiful country itself, there is so many places to visit. Some most popular places in Europe (e.g. Paris, London, Rome) but I think they are not the best to visit because of the number of tourists that fill the streets and so crowed in everytime. If you want to truly experience European cultures and lifestyles, then go for primary cities and enjoy the real Europe. Some places like Vienna Austria, Cinque Terre, Italy, Patmos, Greece, and Plitvic Lakes these are some best places to visit.

Hi! It's wonderful that you're from Canada! I've been there for three times, and I love this country. My family lives there in Vancouver. I am from Poland and I think you should definitely give this country a try. It's got wonderful history, breath taking mountains and beautiful shore! There are also huge number of cities that are worth seeing, and one of them is Cracow. Cracow is full of amazing monuments, castles and churches, and if you get bored of thatyou can always go clubbing, because Cracow has also got many pubs, and clubs. A good place to sleep is Aston Hostel, situated in walking distance from the city centre, and staff is very friendly.
Costa Dorada...a simple vacation that everyone love...
