Yosemite in Winter

Yosemite in Winter
Yosemite Firefall
It's this time of the year again. Yosemite in February is more beautiful than ever. I have shot some of my best photographs in February.
Weather can be very dramatic and when you are really lucky, you will be able to observe a natural phenomenon that can only be seen during the last couple of weeks in February. The firefall (see picture) is a small waterfall that is back-lit by the sun. This makes the fall glow.
Maybe you have never considered to visit Yosemite in Winter, but it is worth the trip. Just carry snow chains and some gasoline.

Thanks for the info Andre.

El Capitan in Winter

Yes noop I was indeed freezing my a%% off and I had a whole bunch of car trouble. A small stone somehow worked its way between my brake disc and a piece of sheet metal protecting the disc (how ironic). It took me almost an hour on hands and knees in the freezing snow to get the thing out. Then the Microcontroller of my car started acting up. Now it thinks the doors are always open.

On the bright side, I got to shoot some really wonderful pictures (see above). Yosemite during a Winterstorm (or actually right after) is really wonderful. I waited the whole day for the photo of El Capitan. The weather was really bad and a lot of people had left. Some die hard photo amateurs (like me) and some "Professionals" stuck around long enough for the spectacle.

This Year

Too bad, but this year I won't be able to make it. I was going to drive to Yosemite every Februrary, but I am too busy.

If you happen to be in the area, make sure you don't miss this.

The last two weeks for Februrary (now) are the time to check out the firefall.
