The One Thing I Always Pack

The One Thing I Always Pack

I always have a sarong with me.  Usually I even carry one with me in my daypack.  Right now I have two, and I'm using one as a top sheet, since they often are not provided in hot climates and the sensation of being under a sheet helps me sleep.  The other is my towel.  Tomorrow I'll turn in my laundry, my sheet will become my towel, and when the laundry comes back, my former towel will turn into a sheet.  I just take the 'sheet' off of the bed if I need the sarong for the pool.

Sometimes I use one as clothing, sometimes as padding, sometimes as a bag to carry something.

What is it that you always pack?

My Camera

I don't leave without my camera.

Sometimes I get so drawn into my photography that I forget to eat and that I don't feel the cold or heat. Once the sun has set and it is completely dark, I usually realize that I am hungry or cold or whatever else. I would absolutely hate it to be at a wonderful place without a camera.

I can do without food a full day and not even feel hungry when I am photographing. When I am on a trip, I never even eat at regular times, since the evenings are my favorite shooting times.

Moroccan trips

On my Marrakech travels, the things I never forget to bring are my fave cap that I brought in Marrakech city's souk market and my digital camera of course.

Toothbrush

Well, I could do with a toothbrush and a change of underwear.

What more do I need except a credit card of course.

The one thing I always take.

The one thing I always take is my camera. I enjoy taking picture of things where ever I go. It is always so much fun to look at them after you come home.

Books

I am such a nerd, but I live in terror of running out of reading material, so I always pack at least three or four books, no matter how short the trip. I can even remember a couple of times when I actually read all of them, too!

You might want to consider upgrading to a PDA with E-book reader software.  You can always have enough books on it so you will never have to live in terror of running out of reading material. You don't have to decide upfront what you need and best of all its smaller.

The only drawback: You need to recharge its batteries

I carry lots of books,

I carry lots of books, too.  Since I do things like stand in a swimming pool and prop the book on the edge, I don't thing the PDA solution is going to work.  Besides, my eyes get tired.

Aside from my camera,

Aside from my camera, money, and a passport, I also always take way too many books with me. I can't help it, vacation is the only time where I might get a chance to actually read a book and finish it too.

I've tried reading books on a PDA, but for me it's just not the same. I agree that it's convenient, but it doesn't seem "right" to me. I need to turn pages and I need the smell of paper when I'm reading. I know, I'm weird that way...Embarassed

baking soda on the go

You can add baking soda to your bath to soothe insect bites and rashes, or you can mix with a little water and make a paste to scrub your sneakers clean. You can also brush your teeth with it.

That's a good idea about

That's a good idea about soaking or scrubbing shoes with baking soda.  I've tossed a couple of pairs because I couldn't get the smell out.
