How Widespread is Online Travel in South America?

I am a travel industry professional from India, who also dabbles a lot in travel technology & online travel..

In India, the phenomenon of online travel is catching up fast and is growing at over 50% per annum...it has its +s and -s, but overall the travel scene is changing quite fast owing to online travel...

I wish to know what the state of online travel - online travel booking, online travel communities etc - in South America is, especially for the following countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile & Venezuela...I am planning to write reviews of online travel scenarios in the various Asian countries and your inputs will be most welcome...I specifically wish to know of any data and statistics (rates of growth), forecasts for the online travel industry, and will most appreciate if members could provide names of the popular online booking web sites, travel community web sites etc..

Many thanks for your patience

Brazil has a budget

Brazil has a budget airline, Gol, and they do on-line booking.  They have expanded recently and now do international flights.  They may swallow the national airline, Varig.

I traveled in Ecuador and Peru, and made absolutely no reservations online, but then I'm a basic budget traveler.  General hostel and hotel booking sites may function, but sometimes they just give you a phone number to call.

its not really that

its not really that popular in Latin America because most people dont trust giving out their credit card information over the internet. Once they know its secure (for the most part) and the great deals they can find, im sure it will catch on.
