Magnetic Island Queensland
Magnetic Island sits about 8km off the coast of Townsville, Queensland. Captain Cook discovered it and named it Magnetical Isle, as he thought his compass went a bit nutty as he passed it. It is just over 50 square kilometres in size, with the National Park making up about 70 per cent of it. The island is very family-friendly with lots of self-contained accommodation, but there are campsites and resorts if that's more your style.
There are loads of things to keep you busy if lounging on one of the 20 or so beaches isn't your idea of fun. You can jet-ski, sea kayak, snorkel on the reefs, ride horses, bushwalk, dive or go fishing. There are even toad races at Magnums Resort.
You can take your car onto the island via the ferry, or you can hire a car once you're there. There ar Mini Mokes available, which I think are fun. Check out www.magneticisland.com.au

OMG, what a paradise. So is there any truth to the magnetic phenomenon? Could be due to a high iron content of the soil?
Its kind of interesting to know, that the magnetic poles of the earth reverse about every so many hundreds of thousands of years. They also drift over time. The Magnetic North Pole is not the same as the geographic one.
Weird Stuff.
Well I am not sure. I remember doing some thing on it at school but it has me really interested now I am going to look it up and see if I can find some more information on it. And yes you are right it is a beautiful place. We did not want to leave. If ever you need a nice slow, stress free holiday, this is the place.
