Traveling By Train
I was thinking about traveling by train from Ohio to California. I have always wanted to travel by train. Has anyone ever done this and if so is it exspensive to do? Thanks.

I think everyone should have one good long train trip in their lives ...just for the experience! It's been along time since I did one in the U.S., but it was great ...from Texas to Seattle to see relatives. I loved it!
Although I love to drive, i would never have missed the Andean Explorer Train. It was such a great experience.
Tater: Go for it ! Don't worry too much about the price. I don't think it will be as much as flying and not that much more then driving, but it will be a pretty cool experience.

Thank you, I really think that I might do this. I have always wanted to travel by train so I think I will. I will have to check out the link you on your post when I get more time. I just glanced at it.
The last time I took a train in the US (other than the Metroliner between DC and New York), I traveled from Portland to Seattle and back. The train runs right along the coast and it is a really beautiful ride. If you ever get a chance, take it even if you only go up and back in one day.
I am wondering if there are any similar rides on the west coast.
I think it could be great way to relax a little, but I have yet to try it.
Definitely do some research and go for it! Every time I've been on a train, I've had wonderful scenery...one route I took followed a river almost the entire way.
Way back in the dark ages of 1985, I took the train from Portland, Oregon to Seattle. The train went along the coast the whole trip and it was really beautiful.
I have used the train a couple of times, and it is an excellent way to travel! Its kinda like being in business class on a plane because the seats are comfortable and you have loads of leg room. It was also quite cheap when i used it only $22 from chicago to St Louis and i also did LA to San Diego for about the same.
Get a nice comfortable train and choose your destination. Make sure that they have some local attraction for tourist or some events that you will like. Therefore you wont get boring. You can bring your own lunch to save some money
