Sacramento Impressions
Here are some impressions from my day trip to Sacramento. We spent a few more days in the Gold Country, but thats another post. Sacramento is California's Capital and a city with a rich history.
Every visitor should at least see the State Capitol. If you have time, there are guided tours available:

The Photo above is a so called "High Dynamic Range Photo" taken at night. It has been stacked from 3 exposures.
The Old Town of Sacramento is another popular tourist attraction. From photos I have seen previously I have imagined it to be bigger. It is about 5 by 3 blocks and wedged in between Interstate 5 and the Sacramento River:

The latest inhabitant of the Govenors Mansion was Govenor Ronald Reagan. Now the Mansion is a State Park and can be visited by the public (Arnold occupies the 12th floor of the Hyatt).

Tower Bridge:

The famous Riverboat is now a Hotel:

Sutter's Fort is one of the smallest forts I have ever seen. It was interesting but not overly impressive:

GPS locations for all of the above will follow promptly (need to update my GPS logs).

Great photos! I had no idea there was anything interesting in Sacramento at all. The only time I ever visited that part of California, I was visiting relatives in Stockton. We took a day trip up to Tahoe, but spent the rest of the time just hanging out and catching up.
I've been to California quite a few times, but there is still so much I haven't seen. There are a lot of things I'd like to do again, too. Drive the coastal road along Big Sur. And visit Hearst's Castle for the fourth time. I love that place. It's just so wierd, with the ketchup bottles on the formal table along with the china and silver.

Thanks! Well, there really isn't a lot in Sacramento. The pictures above pretty much show all the attractions (at least from what I could tell).
However I really did like the city itself. It was just the right size, had plenty of restaurants and wonderful old hotels.
Somehow I got the feeling the entire city runs on quarters. Seriously, if you ever visit Sacramento, bring a big stash of quarters for all the parking meters that are EVERYWHERE. Its unbelievable. On the bright side, you will always find a parking spot.
Another thing, check all the meters in all cross streets. Sometimes one side of the street is 15min/quarter and the other side of the street is 30min/quarter. Naturally it pays to do a U-turn and park on the other side of the street. Weird place.
