Kentucky

Kentucky

Well, since I am living in Kentucky I thought I should get a thread started about this beautiful state. This past weekend my wife and I celebrated our first anniversary. We decided to go to Jenny Wiley Lake, located in Prestonsburg, and lay around in the lodge all weekend. Even though it would have been a lot better during the summer months (The lake was actually frozen over!) we still had a great time. Luckily our anniversary comes around Valentine's Day so we got a special package deal for the weekend which included dinner for two in the lodge's diner. We will definitely be going back this coming summer so we can get out on the lake and have even more fun.

Red River Gorge

Here are some nice photos from red River Gorge:

This formation is know as "Grey's Arch"

Here is another interesting rock formation. This one is called "Rock Bridge"

There are lots of cool rock formations and cliffs in the Red River Gorge. It is a beautiful place to visit if you are ever out Kentucky way!

This somehow reminds me of

This somehow reminds me of the area around Portland, OR.

I have to admit that I had to look Kentucky up on a map not knowing where it was exactly. I think I had a pretty good idea though.

I came to the States in 2000 from Germany. Over there we have places like this too.

My favorite part of

My favorite part of Kentucky is the horse country.  All those fences and the rolling green land and the horses are so beautiful.  Some places that have shown up in a lot of movies aren't nearly as beautiful in person, but the horse country is even more beautiful.

Hello Cindy, Yes, Kentucky

Hello Cindy,

Yes, Kentucky is basically divided into two sections (or should be). There have even been efforts made in the past to subdivide it into two seperate states.

The eastern part of Ky and all the mountains (err uhh hills) with the coal mining and logging and then the central and western portion with all the gently rolling hills and farms.

If you traveled through the state you would see how starkly different the two areas are. Not only is the ladscape different, but so is the economy.

I have lived in different areas of Ky and have spent quite a bit of time around the horse Farms near Lexington and Georgetown. Currently I am deep in the eastern hills section, it's very nice here as well.
