Travel Locations with the most friendly people
I always enjoy going to locations and the first thing you see as you exit the plane is smiling faces as you join the immigration line, and a warm reception from the locals as you leave the airport. Of course, that is just a start, but what I really want to know from the members is where are some of the places you've been that have such friendly people?

To me it seems that the friendlyness of a people is inversely proportinal to their wealth. I have encountered some of the friendliest people ever in the poorest areas of Peru.
In general People in Peru have been extremely friendly.
In the United States I have found that people in Washington State and Oregon are among the friendliest.
In Europe I found the Portugese to be among the most friendly.

I like Costa Rica for it's friendly people. They have a saying "Pura Vida", which literally translates to "pure life", but it describes their attitudes down there. They're just really happy people who really enjoy life. Additionally, what's nicer about Costa Rica than some of the other Latin American countries we've been to is that they really work hard to keep the country clean... Thanks to travelervideos.com They have a great collection of videos. I get all my travel tips from this resource.
My neighbor went to Africa on vacation and she loved it. She ended up moving there, and she loves it. She said thepeople there are so friendly not at all like people here.
I think I am going to have a tough time choosing!! I have to say that, in general, I find people to be friendlier in smaller areas (vs. larger cities) However, as far as who is friendly, it really depends upon who you interact with and why.
I live in the South, so I am used to a certain amount of smiling and chatting with people that I do not know. I found many people in Texas to be extremely friendly and open.
I also enjoyed my time in Swindon, England (in Wiltshire County) This is a smaller area, and everyone was SO nice. London, on the other hand, I could have done without. It is SUCH a big place and everyone seemed to be in a huge hurry.
I'm finding the people in Penang much friendlier than those in Chiang Mai. I think it has a lot to do with the economy not being based totally on tourism.
Definitely Thailand in general is quite friendly, but I've found friendly people in so many countries. I think it mostly depends on the attitude of the traveler.
I have never been here but I do know that a friend of mine said that the people in Egypt were really friendly. In the states I would have to agree with New England.
As a Canadian, I would say people from the Atlantic provinces, like Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, are the most open and easy to start conversations with. Perhaps it's a function of being from smaller provinces and communities. P.E.I. is even called "the friendly island", among other complimentary names.
I just got back from Morocco and the Moroccans are very accommodating. They even give Moroccan mint tea to guests. When I was shopping at city souks, I even got great discounts from them.
New Zealand has a lot of friendly faces indeed - as long as your attitude is not overly brash ;)
