In general, cash is better than traveler's checks. Cash can be easier and quicker to exchange and command a higher rate or the commission can be lower. In some places, the larger the denomination of bills, the better the exchange rate. Many merchants will take dollars and their rate of exchange can be higher than the "official" rate.

Yes although cash can be easier and quicker to exchange you also have to weigh up if it is better to carry cash around with you? Depending on where we are travelling we don't like to carry to much cash. we had a bad experience years ago thinking that it would be better to trvcel with cash. We where at the markets in Thailand when someone took my wallet. We had a fair bit of cash in it and lost it all. But I do agree it is up to the individual I suppose.

Thats Right!

That is very right Tanya. I too beleive that cash is a better choice. That is a freedom you have and you dont have to worry about spending your time on travelers cheque. They are a good wway too.. but I see that cash i certainly a better option than anything else.

Recently, I was in Montreal and I preferred taking cash there.

Yes, cash can be easier, but most times during your travels you're carrying a lot on you. Always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. So, when going on a huge vacation/trip out of the country, I always bring traveler's checks. Worse case scenario, lost luggage/purse or something gets stolen you can stop payment on the traveler's check and get another issued for you.
