Tips

Tips

How do you all feel about tips when travelling? I havnt really had much to do with them but was told the other day that tipping is not standard practice in Australia but is generally considered an appropriate gesture of appreciation when the level of service has exceeded experctations, as the Australians working in the tourist hospitality and transport industries are paid a minimum salary. But if you where to give one a tip of around 10% would be considered appropriate.

Inform

I usually just inform myself whats appropritate in a country I travel to. For instance in the US 15%-20% is normal if you are satisfied with your service.

I consider tips a sign of appreciation. So if I receive excellent service, I don't mind giving 20% otherwise I give less.

Always check your receipt first. If you are a party of 6 or more, most restaurants in the US already charge a tip of 15% (gratituity), which I find pretty perkily, considering that you should be able to determine how much you are willing to give.
