Tales of the Unexpected

Tales of the Unexpected

Often it's the unexpected things that are the best, even if they are just a brief glimpse.  Saturday night I took a trishaw and I heard this loud clanging noise and some wailing, as we got closer, I could see a stage set up in a parking lot.  It was a Chinese opera!  People had stopped to look, sitting astride their motorbikes.  Others were perched on walls.  It was such a bright, colorful, and delightful surprise!

What sort of unexpected delights have you experienced?

Free Beer

How about free beer when my company spun off. It was quite a party.

unexpected pleasures

It's true that these unexpected events often touch us deeply because they drop into our laps like gifts.  I remember trying to travel through France on July 14, Bastille Day, and there was standing room only on the train. I was prepared to swallow my impatience and annoyance when the the atmosphere turned jovial. People took turns sharing seats with strangers, and some of us exchanged numbers. Nearly everyone kept up their sense of humour about the whole thing.

I happened to be in

I happened to be in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala on the day of the celebration of their patron saint...that was a wacky celebration. I also rode what my friends and I called "the ferris wheel of doom." We were the only gringos there!
