Peculiar Things in Foreign Countries

I just returned from a trip to Germany visiting my family. One thing that has struck me as rather peculiar, is that there is almost no way to go to a public bathroom without paying. Most charge 0.50 Euros and one even wanted a Euro for a p**s. I found this rather strange. The last time I was in Germany (3 years ago) there was no such thing. Now they have turnpikes in front of their restrooms.

Another peculiar thing is the Autobahn. I am not aware of any other country that has roads without speed limit.

What peculiar things do you know?

At one time Montana didn't

At one time Montana didn't have speed limits.

I've been noticing that a lot of shops here in the Chinatown section of Penang seem to be set up to discourage business.  The sidewalks are so crowded with racks of things for sale that people walk on the street, eliminating a lot of the foot traffic.  Some people deliberately set up objects to keep people from using the sidewalks, too.  Owners of shops will stand in front of the shop, blocking the entrance, arms folded across their chest, legs slightly spread, like guards trying to keep people out.  I've also seen a shop owner park his motorbike in such a way as to totally block access to his shop.

Today I looked in a few shops for a sarong, decided I wanted one from the second shop I had been in, went back, and the owner yelled at me to leave, I'd already seen everything and nothing had changed and I should get out of his shop!

I have had it so I have to

I have had it so I have to pay to go into the washrooms, some prices were outragious but when you gotta go, you gotta go. I have never had a problem with people blocking there shops or anything. If anything they want to keep me there as long as possible!

That's why it is so

That's why it is so peculiar.  Why would anyone make their shop harder to get into?

And what about paying fot the little tomato packets at McDonald's in Germany?
