Budget tips for a family Holiday

Here are some tips when you are on a budget with a family:

Fill you your fridge with supermarket drinks and snacks, as opposed to buying it as you . Pack picnics as well.

 

Breakfast buffets can be a budget breaker. Instead, pack plastic bowls and spoons and buy a box of cereal and milk when you arrive.

 

Instead of splashing out on restaurants, go for accommodation that includes a kitchen and eat in as much as possible.

 

Never look past a backpackers hostel. You can get a double private room in some hostels that will be a lot cheaper than a hotel. Kids are welcome, too.

 

Book airfares well in advance at least three months ahead for the best deals.

I think in todays economy,

I think in todays economy, as evidenced by a reduction in consumer spending, there will be a lot more people going on budget vacations. You are right about the hostels too. In America, they are not as popular, but there are still plenty around. they can be a great way to save money and often are a fun experience.

I would also look into rental properties instead of hotels. You can probably save at least 10-20% a night compared to a regular hotel rate. And like you said you can use the kitchen to save money and stay in and eat.
