I just returned from two weeks in Yunnan province, including three days trekking in Tiger Leaping Gorge. While I haven't been to other parts of China, I can say that that area was AMAZING. The gorge was breathtaking, the people were very nice, the towns along the way (Lijang, Dali) while very touristy were actually a lot of fun if you like people watching as most of the tourists were Chinese people taking in the sites of their own country.
