Sulthan bathery is an important town in Wayanad district

Wayanad is an evergreen tourist destination in Kerala. This district is nestled in the Western Ghats and has a dense forest cover. The flora and fauna in this place has a safe place for birds and animals. The climate is pleasant throughout the year and attracts tourists from all over. Sulthan Bathery is an important town in Wayanad district and is situated above 930 mts above sea level. The town lies on the highway connecting Kozhikode and Mysore. It is situated 115kms from Kozhikode and 100 kms from Ooty. It has now become a popular destination among the tourists mainly from neighboring Karnataka and Tamia Nadu.The town was initially called Ganapativattom because of the presence of Ganesha temple in the town. Tipu Sultan, the erstwhile ruler of Mysore stored his ammunition in a Jain temple here. From then on, the place was called Sultan Battery because the Sultan stored his battery or ammunition here. This was later modified to Sulthan Bathery. There are many places to see in and around Sulthan Bathery.Sulthan bathery sightseeing attractions include:Ganapati temple and Mariyamman temple: these are two most important temples in the town. The town was named Ganapativattom after the famous Ganapati temple here.Jain temple: this temple belongs to the 13th century. This was an important Jain shrine. The stone carvings and the wall paintings are interesting. Tipu Sultan stored his ammunition here in the Jain temple. Hence the name was given as Sultan Battery or Sulthan Bathery.St.Mary’s Orthodox cathedral: This is a main church for the people following Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.Jumma Masjid: There is the biggest Jumma masjid in this town. This is situated close to the town stand at Sulthan bathery.
