Need Information on bird flu!
My mum and dad have decided to go to Asia next month; just to visit the place. Everyone knows that Asia is one of the countries where the bird flu had created great havoc. I just wanted to know about the situation over there now. Is it safe to go to that country? What is the latest news about the h5n1 virus? I read that tamiflu protects people against the bird flu virus; read the article on http://www.drugdelivery.ca/bird-flu.aspx and ordered the drug too. Mum and dad are saying that they will take the medicine once they reach that place. Is it 100% guaranteed that those who take this medicine will not be affected by the virus? Please help me out.

Situation in Thailand is quite OK ,there's no new case for 6 months (due to the heat and rainy season) Tamiflu we have in stock of all hospital available.

thank you for information
If there is an outbreak, all your parents have to do is not eat chicken or duck, or make sure it is very thoroughly cooked. They found some chickens with bird flu in a city not too far from Chiang Mai, during a regular inspection of farms. It made me a bit nervous (though I felt better knowing it was found quickly), so I had some vegetarian meals and only ate chicken that had been cut up in little pieces to put in curry, because that is always well cooked.
What countries are they going to? Vietnam and China will require a lot more care.

Hm, sounds logical but doesn't that also mean you have a much higher chance of catching it from someone else? I guess thats the reason people wear these masks?
Also how do you handle the raw chicken before it is thoroughly cooked?

Bird flu is not spread from person to person. You can only get it by ingesting contaminated blood from a bird. So, if the bird is really well cooked, you won't catch it. Most of the cases, after there were campaigns and awareness programs, came from ritual drinking of blood at funerals and other ceremonies.
Even if you handle it the raw contaminated meat, you have to somehow get it into your system, like not be aware and touch your mouth or touch some food you are going to eat.
One of the big worries in the medical field is that one of these animal-borne diseases will mutate so it can spread from person to person, especially if it spreads in an aerosol form (like a cold spreads when people sneeze).
