What is your budget (or how close are they to you)?
I guess it starts with a pack of earlplugs (not the most romantic gift) and goes all the way to Cameras.
My dad is a good navigator, otherwise I would probably consider a gps navigator for him. Prices have come down on them quite a bit. I bought mine from Mio a while ago and I like it a lot better then my frinds Garmin (the voice is not auto generated but recorded wav and much more understandable and the maps are easier to read too). I think mine is somewhat like this one: Mio C310x GPS Navigator
Some people (like me) have a Amazon Wishlist. Just search for them on Amazon. That should give you a fairly good idea what they want, but others might have the same idea.
If your friend likes to read, the Amazon Kindle
might be a big hit for travelers. This ebook reader lets them take as many books as they want on their trips (although I think its somewhat pricy).

I have some people on my list that are very close to me and that I'd spend up to $200 on, some people that I wish I didn't have to buy a gift for at all... :) I think I'm going to buy MYSELF that Amazon Kindle, that's a superb suggestion. I might buy one for my cousin too. I was thinking that a nice gift might be movies that are travel themed like "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset", "The Sheltering Sky", or "Outsourced".
Personally I am not 100% sold, since it cannot display PDF. If you buy most of your books on Amazon anyways there is no reason not to buy it.
One of my favorite travel themed movies is The Terminal. I am not sure if it will put people off from flying though.
I think I saw a goad road trip movie once, but I seem to have forgotten the name.

I guess anything portable is good for travel. Depending on who your friends are, they might be happy to get a nice suitcase or travel pillow.
The ingenious, pocket-sized Power Monkey charges all your portable electronics, including mobile phone, iPod, digital camera, MP3 player, PDA, Bluetooth headset and Blackberry. I have one and it's perfect.
Love the idea. I have a iGo (variation on the theme). It has a connector for power outlets, airplanes and car cigarette lighter jacks and fits all laptops.

I love The Terminal too!
But as a traveler I want to receive a complimentary hotel accomodation :)
Or maybe a a handy digital camera.
Or maybe an mp3 player.
Digital Camera is nice.
For a $200 budget though the new Asus EEE PC is a nice gift. Its a small laptop weighing less than 2 lbs.
