Two Favorite Attractions to Enjoy in Edinburgh

Edinburgh, ScotlandEdinburgh, ScotlandEdinburgh is one of my favorite destinations in Europe. It's a fabulous to visit during one of the exciting summer festivals, but it's also a great place for a weekend getaway. Edinburgh is even fine for an off-season retreat, provided you bring warm clothes. Between the attractions in the Old Town and New Town, you feel as if you're visiting two destinations, yet it's incredibly easy to get around in and between both areas.

My favorite place to stay in Edinburgh is the Frederick House Hotel in the Georgian New Town area. This is a very comfortable hotel with plenty of Old World charm, and it's a great value for the service, amenities and quality of the facilities. Don't let the lack of an on site restaurant and bar deter you from staying here. You can enjoy breakfast right next door at Rick's Restaurant and there are tons of places to eat and drink all around the Hotel.

You're right in city centre at the Frederick House Hotel, just off George Street. You can walk to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile is close by. There's plenty to do and see right in the immediate vicinity of the Hotel, and it's very easy to catch public transportation to other parts of the City, too.

One attraction you won't want to miss on your first trip is The Real Mary King's Close tour offered at the Writers Court at Warriston's Close. This creepy, but fascinating tour will give you a lot of insight into the history of the city. The tour takes you beneath the ground to explore the closes where everyday people lived (and died) in the heart of Edinburgh during the 16th and 17 centuries. This tour is an experience you will never forget and is well worth seeking out.

I don't happen to care for traditional Scottish cuisine, but I do love fresh seafood. My favorite place to have a special seafood meal is Creelers Seafood Restaurant, and it's also renowned for its traditional fare. It's located in the historic Old Town, just off the Royal Mile.

Creelers is the perfect place to stop for dinner after a day of sightseeing in Edinburgh. If you like game dishes and Scottish food or you'd just like to enjoy some terrific fish and excellent wine, Creelers is ideal. The atmosphere is upbeat and you'll enjoy viewing the artwork by Scottish artists displayed throughout the restaurant.
